Judy Hult Deibel

Judy was introduced to gymnastics at 15 years old by a friend who invited her to a practice session at the Rochester Turners.  When she was asked if she wanted to try some of the exercises being performed, she jumped right in.  Her natural ability caught the eye of coach, Bud Marquette, who asked where she had been taking lessons.  Her answer, “nowhere,” led to his invitation to join the team.

Judy excelled and within 5 years became the AAU National Champion, earning 1 of 6 spots on the 1956 Women’s Gymnastics Team coached by Marquette, an Ambridge native.  The Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia were the pinnacle for the USA Women’s Team, who competed admirably against their competitors.

Judy continued her love of the sport after the Olympics by teaching local girls at the Rochester and Beaver Falls Turners, and at Mt. Lebanon HS.  She also officiated HS gymnastics and volleyball.

Judy was inducted into the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame in 1976.

Today, Judy resides in Bonita Springs, FL and her competitive drive is still apparent on the golf course or at the card table.  To her family, she will always be a Gold Medal mom!
