Janet DiTullio, '89
Janet’s tennis career began when she was 4 years old. She played tennis for hours, hitting tennis balls off of the backboard at the Midland Tennis Courts located by her family home. Janet started competing in tennis in 1986 at BAHS, playing 2nd singles during her freshman year & 1st singles during her sophomore, junior & senior years. She achieved a singles record of 60-4. During her senior year (1989), Janet captured both the section singles title & the section doubles title. The BAHS Girls Tennis Team won the section title that same year. Janet was selected as a Super Grad by the Beaver County Times in 1990. In addition to HS tennis, Janet played in many local tennis tournaments. She also played in the U.S. Tennis Association Tournaments, earning a ranking of 8th in the Allegheny Mountain region and 37th in the Middle States region. She was a Silver Medalist in the Keystone State Games.
During her time at Geneva College, Janet specialized in winning on the tennis court. She played first singles and first doubles all four years & recorded 106 victories during her amazing collegiate tennis career - including a 54-8 overall record in singles and a 52-6 overall record in doubles. She was District Tournament Doubles Champion in 1990, 1991 & 1992, as well as District Tournament Singles Champion in 1991, 1992 & 1993. Janet participated in the NAIA National Tournament all four years & she helped the Geneva Women’s Tennis Team advance to the NAIA National Tournament in 1991 & 1992.
After graduating from Geneva College in 1994, Janet became the Head Women’s Tennis Coach at Geneva, where she coached until 2001. Her 1997-1998 tennis team was named the Keystone Empire Collegiate Conference Champions & the Northeast Region Champions. In 1997, Janet was named the KECC Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year.
Janet has coached Girls’ Tennis at BAHS. From 1999-2002, she was the Girls’ Varsity Asst. Coach. In 2001 & 2002, the Girls’ Varsity Tennis teams won the Section 2 Championship, the MAC Championship & the WPIAL Championship, & competed at the PIAA tournament. Janet was the Head Coach of the Girls’ JV Tennis Team from 2004-2021. She has served as the Varsity Girls’ Head Coach since 2022.
In 2016, she was inducted into the inaugural class of the Geneva College Sports Hall of Fame. In 2017, she was inducted into the Midland Sports Hall of Fame, & in 2018, she was inducted into the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame.
