Jim Hummel, '83

Jim Hummel participated in 3 sports at BAHS earning 8 varsity letters - football (2), basketball (3) & baseball (3). In his junior year, Jim excelled at football on special teams when they won the 1981 WPIAL Championship with a 11-1-1 record. During his senior year, in which they won their second consecutive WPIAL Championship with a record of 12-0-1, Jim was the starting quarterback & defensive back while continuing his special teams duties. For his senior year efforts, he was named first team all-conference as a quarterback, defensive back & kicker. He was also recognized as an honorable mention all-state defensive back.

Jim was a starting point guard during his sophomore, junior & senior years & was instrumental in helping those teams excel in the post season. Jim was the starting shortstop for the Bobcats his sophomore through senior years. During his sophomore & junior years, Jim helped his team to consecutive WPIAL playoff appearances culminating in his senior year with a WPIAL Championship & an appearance in the 1983 PIAA Championship game. 

Jim was recruited to play both football & baseball at the collegiate level. After graduating high school, Jim accepted an offer to play football at Clarion University of Pennsylvania as a free safety. After his athletic career was finished, Jim coached both of his boys in baseball & football from their youth leagues through their travel ball careers.  Jim currently resides in Matthews, NC with his wife Kerry Hummel (BASH '85) & family.
