Nikki Borza Mathews
During her time at BAHS, Nikki was an accomplished tennis player, representing BASD as the PIAA State Singles Runner Up (1998); WPIAL Singles Champion (1998); 3-time First Team All-State player (1997-1999); 4-time MAC and Section Singles Champion and member of WPIAL Championship team (1995 & 1998). Nikki graduated with high honors in 1999, accepting an athletic scholarship to play tennis at the University of Pittsburgh.
At Pitt, Nikki competed in the elite Big East Conference and went on to become the 6th most winning singles player and the 10th most winning doubles player in University history. Nikki was an Academic All American (2002 & 2003); Team Captain (2001-2003); 4-time Big East Academic All Star (1999-2003); and Team MVP (2000). In her senior year, Nikki was awarded the Mike Ditka Scholarship Award, was the University of Pittsburgh’s Big East Academic Athlete of the Year, the Beaver Co. Dick Kadis Award Winner and won the prestigious University of Pittsburgh Blue Gold Scholar Athlete Award, which entitled her to have her name etched in the Varsity Walk Hall of Fame between the Cathedral of Learning and Heinz Chapel. Nikki graduated magna cum laude in 2003, with a degree in Communications and Linguistics.
Following her collegiate athletic career, Nikki became a certified PTR tennis professional and served as the Asst. Tennis Coach at Pitt for several seasons. In 2009, she was hired as the Director of Racquets and Head Tennis Professional at The Pittsburgh Golf Club, making her the first female Head Tennis Professional in the history of the city of Pittsburgh. Nikki resided in Singapore from 2016-2020 and represented the Singapore Cricket Club on the national stage in various international tournaments and exhibitions in association with the WTA final tournament, held there annually.
Nikki currently resides in Houston, TX with her husband, Paul, whom she met at Pitt. Her most prized accomplishments are their 2 wonderful children, Alexandra & Mason.
